Arthur Fiedler

Arthur Fiedler ( born December 17, 1894 in Boston / Massachusetts, † July 10, 1979 in Brookline / Massachusetts) was an American conductor and violinist.

Fiedler was the son of a product originating in Austria violinist who played in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. From 1909 he studied in Berlin with Willy Hess violin. In 1915, he was himself a violinist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

In 1924 he founded the Boston Sinfonietta, a chamber orchestra made ​​up of members of the Symphony Orchestra. From 1930 he led for nearly fifty years, the Boston Pops Orchestra. In addition, he has also conducted regularly the San Francisco Pops Orchestra.

Fiedler took with the Boston Pops Orchestra are lots of very successful records on, mostly light classical and traditional American folk music, but also symphonic arrangements of popular musicals and film scores.
