Optimistic as he was, he signed a lease for 9000 years with an annual rent of £ 45 In 1761, he married at St. Mary's Church in Dublin Olivia Whitmore, with whom he had 21 children in the course of his subsequent life. Only ten of them reached adulthood and founded the famous Guinness dynasty.

In 1778, Guinness began brewing the dark beer porter, and in 1799 he set the brows lighter beers a completely. Towards the end of the 18th century, his brewery was the largest Porter and Stout brewery in the world.
