Arthur Hiller

Arthur Hiller ( born November 22, 1923 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a Canadian film director.

Hiller initially studied law, but abandoned his studies to work for television. Since 1948, he is married to Gwen Hiller. First, he turned episodes of television series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Merciless city and Gunsmoke in the 1950s and 1960s. In the early 1960s he began to work for the cinema. His biggest success was the movie Love Story. The bittersweet love story was the biggest blockbuster of 1970 and 1971. He was awarded an Academy Award nomination and won a Golden Globe Award. A year later he won the Silver Bear for his film Hospital at the Berlinale 1972.

Arthur Hiller was 1993-1997 President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Academy Award awarded each year.
