Arthur Hinsley

Arthur Cardinal Hinsley ( born August 25, 1865 in Selby, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom, † March 17, 1943 in Butingford ) was Archbishop of Westminster.

Life

Arthur Hinsley studied in Durham and Rome Catholic theology. He received on December 23, 1893 Sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a lecturer in the formation of priests. From 1917 to 1930 he served as rector of the " Venerable English College " in Rome.

Pope Pius XI. 1926 appointed him titular bishop of Sebastopolis in Armenia. The bishop ordained by Cardinal Hinsley Arthur Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta. In 1927 he was sent to the Pope as apostolic visitor to British Africa, 1930, he appointed him Titular Archbishop of Sardes and apostolic delegate for the British colonies in Africa.

In 1935, Arthur Hinsley, Archbishop of Westminster, and two years later took him Pius XI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Susanna in the College of Cardinals. Arthur Hinsley took part in the conclave of 1939. He died on 17 March 1943 in Butingford in London and was buried in the Cathedral of Westminster.
