Arthur Hughes (artist)

Arthur Hughes ( born January 27, 1832 in London, † December 23, 1915 ) was a British illustrator and painter from the group of Pre-Raphaelites.

Life

Arthur Hughes was the son of Edward and Amy Hughes. To 1838, he entered the Grammar School Archbishop Tenison, where he noticed early on by his drawings. From 1846 he studied under Alfred Stevens at the School of Design, Somerset House. A year later, he enrolled in the " Schools Antique " the Royal Academy. In 1849 he won a silver medal for one of his drawings. In the same year his first picture, Musidora, was exhibited at the Royal Academy.
