Arthur Ibbetson

Arthur Ibbetson Francis ( born September 8, 1922 in Bishop Auckland, Durham, England; † October 19, 1997 in Hillingdon ) was a British cinematographer.

Biography

Arthur Ibbetson debuted in 1938 at the Bushey Studios, joined a year later as a second camera assistant at the British International studios and in the same capacity in 1940 at Shepperton and Denham Studios. After his military service, from which he was discharged in 1943, he joined the chief cameraman Mutz Greenbaum, who picked him in the same year as a simple camera man ( debut in the spy thriller " Hotel Reserve " ) to his side.

With The Horse 's Mouth, a film drama starring Alec Guinness in the lead role, Ibbetson made ​​his debut as director of photography. Since then stood Ibbetson for numerous films behind the camera. In 1970 he was nominated for Anne of the Thousand Days for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. In 1981 he was awarded the Emmy for his camera work in the film Little Lord Fauntleroy.
