Arthur Lindsay Sadler

Arthur Lindsay Sadler (* 1882 in Hackney, London, † 1970) was professor of Oriental Studies at the University of Sydney.

Sadler attended Dulwich College, Merchant Taylors ' School in London and the St John 's College, Oxford (BA, 1908; MA, 1911). He was Pusey - Ellerton scholar of Hebrew (1903), Kennicott junior Stipendidiat for Hebrew ( 1907), won the junior Septuagint Prize ( 1907) and completed his studies in Oriental languages ​​(Hebrew and Assyrian ), summa cum laude.

Between 1922-1948 Sadler was the Professor of Oriental Studies at the University of Sydney. He also taught at the Royal Military College. Among his publications is A Short History of Japanese Architecture, Maker of Modern Japan, see: The Life of Tokugawa Ieyasu and Cha -No- Yu: The Japanese Tea Ceremony. He translated The Ten Foot Square Hut ( the Hojoki ), excerpts from the Heike Monogatari and The Code of The Samurai Budo Shoshinshu into English.

After his retirement, he returned to England and settled in the village of Great Bardfield in Essex down. He associated with some of the Great Bardfield Artists including Edward Bawden, Stanley Clifford -Smith and Michael Rothstein. He spent his last years in Buck's House, Great Bardfield, which he had bought from his friend Stanley Clifford - Smith.
