Arthur M. Free

Arthur Monroe Free ( born January 15, 1879 in San Jose, California, † April 1, 1953 ) was an American politician. Between 1921 and 1933 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Free Arthur attended the public schools in Santa Clara and then the University of the Pacific in Stockton. After a subsequent law degree from Stanford University and his 1903 was admitted to the bar he began in San José to work in this profession. In 1904 he moved to the Mountain View community, whose legal representative he was 1904-1910. From 1907 to 1919 Free District Attorney in Santa Clara County. Thereafter, he practiced in San Jose again as a private lawyer. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1914 and from 1920 to 1936 he was a delegate to the regional party conferences of the Republicans in California.

In the congressional elections of 1920 Free was in the eighth constituency of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Hugh S. Hersman on March 4, 1921. After five re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1933 six legislative periods. In 1932 he was defeated by Democrat John J. McGrath. The election result was in the then Federal trend in favor of the Democratic Party.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Arthur Free -operated again as a lawyer. He died on April 1, 1953 in his hometown of San Jose.
