Arthur (operating system)

Arthur was an operating system with graphical user interface of the company Acorn, which was used on the ARM processor -based computers, such as on the Acorn Archimedes.

The first version of Arthur appeared in 1987.

It was not capable of multitasking, and the graphical user interface was completely written in BBC BASIC.

Arthur was replaced by RISC OS 2, the user interface ( WIMP ) was in contrast to Arthur written in assembly language. Most applications that were written for Arthur, also ran under RISC OS.
