Arthur Schmidt (film editor)

Arthur Schmidt ( born 1937 ) is an American editor.

Life

He is the son of Arthur P. Schmidt, also a known cutter ( Sunset Boulevard, Some Like It Hot ). Schmidt began his career in the early 1970s as assistant editor at the Western Macho Callahan. His first known film was Jaws 2 (1978). When working on Fandango (1985 ) he came for the first time with Steven Spielberg in conjunction, the result is a long-standing collaboration with Robert Zemeckis, for which he cuts virtually any movie from Back to the Future (1985). For Roger Rabbit he could take his first Oscar in 1988 as an editor in reception and in 1995 he received his second Oscar for Forrest Gump. In 2009 he was honored with the ACE Career Achievement Award.

His brother Ron is a Jesuit priest and priests in Hollywood, his brother Greg works as a Camera Operator.
