Arthur von Pongracz

Arthur of Pongrácz de Szent- Miklos and Óvár ( born June 25, 1864 in Bielsko -Biala; † January 13, 1942 in Vienna ) was an Austrian dressage rider.

Life

Arthur von Pongracz entered in 1881 the Austrian kuk Army at. From 1904 he served as aide and 1906-1908 as Adjutant of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I in the First World War, he took part in various cavalry regiments.

1902 occupied by Pongracz at the first international dressage competition history in Turin in second place. He also started in show jumping and held from 1913 to 1936 with 2.08 meters, the Austrian high jump record.

Three times Arthur started by Pongracz at the Olympic Games in dressage: 1924 in Paris on Aberta, 1928 in Amsterdam on Turridu and 1936 in Berlin on Georgina. In each of his appearances he was respectively the oldest athlete in the Games. 1936 in Berlin, where he now reached, retired Major General of the Austrian dressage team to fourth place and thus its best finish, he was 72 years old and thus after the Swedish sport shooter Oscar Swahn the second oldest Olympic athlete of all time.
