Arthur Wynne

Arthur Wynne ( born June 22, 1871 in Liverpool, † January 14, 1945 in Clearwater ) was an editor of the New York World. He headed the department of tricks and jokes, where he had a Sunday edition, Fun fill with new puzzles, among other things. He became known by the invention of the crossword puzzle that was published on 21 December 1913 in the Christmas issue. Basis of the puzzle was the game magic square, which he had known in his childhood. His crossword puzzles, in his Word Cross Puzzle, so cross word puzzles instead called Cross - Word Puzzle ( Crossword ) was diamond-shaped, is so different from today usually rectangular crosswords.
