Arto Ruotanen

Arto Sakari Ruotanen ( born April 11, 1961 in Pyhajarvi ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player and current coach.

Career

Arto Ruotanen began his career as a hockey player with Kärpät Oulu, for the first team to 1986 he was active from 1979 in the SM- liiga, the top Finnish league. In the 1984/85 season he was voted into the All-Star team in the league. From 1986 to 1992 the defender was standing by the HV71 in the Swedish Elitserien under contract. He was then obliged to season 1992 /93 of BSC Preussen from the Hockey League. For the Berlin he scored in 24 games three goals and three templates. For the 1993/94 season the Finn returned to Sweden, where he played from 1993 to 1996 for the Rögle BK in the Elitserien. With Rögle he rose in the 1995/96 season from in the then second-class Division 1. In this he ran on in the season 1996/ 97 for IF Troja Ljungby -. Finally, the three -time Olympian was active for the Nittorps IK from the Division 2 in the 1997/98 season, before he ended his active career at the age of 37 years.

From 1998 to 2003 Ruotanen was active as an assistant coach at his former club HV71 in Elitserien. From 2003 to 2006 he served as head coach of the gambling in the now third-rate Division 1 Tranås AIF.

Internationally

For Ruotanen Finland took part in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1979 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 1981 at junior level. In the 1981 U20 World Championships, he won the silver medal with his team.

In the senior level, he was part in the World Championships 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991 and 1992 in the squad of his country. In addition, he performed with Finland at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, in Calgary in 1988 and 1992 in Albertville and in 1991 at Canaca Cup on. At the Winter Games in 1988 and at the 1992 World Championships, he won the silver medal with Finland respectively.
