The Cempedakbaum ( Artocarpus integer), or also called Champedak, a species belonging to the genus breadfruit ( Artocarpus ) within the family mulberry family ( Moraceae ) is a part.

Description

Artocarpus integer grows as evergreen tree, reaching heights of growth of up to 20 meters. Like other Breadfruit tree plants contain all plant parts have a white sticky latex. The flowers are inconspicuous and unisexual. The up to 60 cm long, 20 cm wide, greenish yellow collecting fruit can weigh up to 4 kg.

Dissemination

The tree is native to Southeast Asia, in particular it is native to Malaysia and Indonesia. In Borneo, the tree is also found wild.

Use

The fruits are valued for their aromatic yellowish, creamy -soft, very tasty flesh ( aril ). However, the intense fragrance for many European noses is unpleasant, similar to the smell of durian. In aroma and popularity ranks between the fruit durian ( Durio zibethinus ) and Nangka ( jackfruit, Artocarpus heterophyllus ). The flesh can be consumed fresh or fried in batter. The seed is edible after boiling or roasting. With richly -bearing trees numerous unripe fruits are removed, they can as a vegetable, similar to the jackfruit, be utilized in the kitchen.
