Artur Grottger

Artur Grottger ( born November 11, 1837 in Ottyniowice, (Galicia ), † December 13, 1867 in Amelie- les- Bains- Palalda, department of Pyrénées- Orientales) was a Polish painter and draftsman.

Life

Artur Grottger began his studies at home and went to Vienna, where he was a student of Karl von Blaas at the Art Academy later. His ingenious, fine by patriotic enthusiasm talent revealed itself early in a cycle of charcoal drawings, which treated the large Polish uprising in his home and remember the passion in the description to Jan Matejko.

Grottger died four weeks after his 30th birthday on 13 December 1867 in the Pyrenäenbad Amélie- les- Bains- Palalda. His drawings (partly owned by the Count Palffy ) have been reproduced photographically.
