Artur Guttmann

Artur Guttmann ( born August 21, 1891 in Vienna, † September 3, 1945 in Los Angeles) ( pseudonyms: Otto Erwin, Erwin Otto Kulm ) was an Austrian conductor and film composer.

Life and work

The son of a musician began his artistic career in 1909 as head of the boys' choir at the Vienna Volksoper. In 1912 he was Kapellmeister at the Johann Strauss Theater, where he remained until 1914. After the war he conducted, among others, from 1919 in Berlin at the Komische Oper.

During the 1920s, Guttmann played in Berlin, to public events with its ' Jazz Symphony ' on.

Guttmann was a conductor, like heard guest on Radio Berlin. The Odeon Lindström brand he made the late 1920s a series of recordings in which he conducted the ' Universe Symphony ' or the ' UFA Symphony Orchestra '.

Since mid 20s, he composed music for silent movies and directed the theater orchestra in Berlin movie theaters. With the beginning of the sound film era, he became one of the busiest composers in the German film. In Hollywood, he served several times as a musical director, but received only two orders to his own compositions. His last work was the music for the anti - Goebbels film Enemy of Women, 1944.
