Artur Lemba

Artur Lemba (* September 24 1885 in Reval (Tallinn ), † November 21, 1963 ) was an Estonian composer.

Artur Lemba was born into a family of musicians Estonian. Later the family moved to Saint Petersburg. At the St. Petersburg Conservatory, he studied piano and composition until 1908, among others, Nikolai Rimsky -Korsakov.

1908 lembas Symphony No. 1 in C sharp minor, the first symphony of an Estonian composer, premiered in St. Petersburg. Artur Lemba was next to his brother Theodor Lemba the first professional Estonian pianist.

From 1908 to 1920 he was a lecturer for the piano in Russia, since 1915 with the title of professor. With the independence of Estonia from Russia Lemba 1920 moved from Petrograd to Tallinn back. After a brief interlude in Helsinki worked Artur Lemba 1923-1962 as a professor of the piano at the Tallinn Conservatory.
