Arturo Barrios

Arturo Barrios ( Arturo Barrios Flores, born December 12, 1962 in Mexico City ) is a retired Mexican long-distance runner.

He was known for his world record in the 10,000 meter run ( 27:08,23 min on August 18, 1989 in Berlin) and the hours of operation ( 21,101 m on 30 March 1991 La Flèche ). Latter he lost after 16 years of Haile Gebrselassie, who brought the record on 27 June 2007 in Ostrava on 21 285 m. Even the established record in the meantime as a 20,000 - meter track running ( 56:55,6 min) he lost on that day Gebrselassie who needed 56:25,98 min.

Barrios was thus the first runner who covered the half- marathon distance ( 21.0975 m) in less than an hour.
