Arturo Michelena

Arturo Michelena ( born June 16, 1863 in Valencia, † July 29, 1898 in Caracas ) was a Venezuelan painter.

He started painting under the guidance of his father, even in his childhood. He traveled to Paris where he studied at the Académie Julian. He was the first Venezuelan artist who had success and abroad, together with Cristóbal Rojas (1857-1890) and Martín Tovar y Tovar (1827-1902), one of the most important Venezuelan painters of the 19th century.

According to him, the Museo Arturo Michelena in Caracas is named.
