ArtX

ArtX was founded in 1997 by a group of engineers from Silicon Graphics, who developed the graphic chip for the Nintendo 64. Co-founder, Dr. Yen How, former top engineer at Silicon Graphics. President of the company was David Orton, who also directed the "Advanced Graphics Division " of Silicon Graphics.

ArtX wanted to develop 3D graphics chips for the PC sector, which should be both powerful and cheap and they hoped immediately with the then market leaders 3dfx and nVidia to compete. At COMDEX in autumn 1999 they demonstrated together with Acer Labs the first IGP with T & L unit, the ALi Aladdin 7 In addition, they were selected by Nintendo as a supplier for the graphics chip of the GameCube, called Flipper.

In February 2000 ArtX was for U.S. $ 400 million acquired by ATI Technologies and is fully integrated into the company.
