Southeastern Arum ( Arum cylindraceum )

The Southeastern Arum ( Arum cylindraceum ) is a species of the genus Arum ( Arum ) in the family of Araceae ( Araceae ).

Description

The Southeastern Arum is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height of 15 to 40 centimeters. This Geophyt forms as Überdauerungsorgan from a horizontal and disc-shaped tuber. From this short walk from adventitious shoots, which occasionally develop into independent plants, so that horst -like colonies arise. The stem is nearly as long as or longer than the petioles. The leaf blade never has spots.

The odorless inflorescence consists of spathe and pistons. The spathe is light green, 8-18 cm long and 1.5 to 2 times as long as the piston. The length of the upper spreading part is 1.5 to 3 times the lower closed. On the inside of the lower -tube section is located at the height of the male flowers a purple cross ribbon. The appendages of the piston is thin, worm -like, mildly to moderately clavate, light chocolate brown to dark purple and measures 30 to 50 × 2.5 to 4 millimeters. The flowerless areas of the piston between male and a bit stiff, barren flowers are smooth. The anthers are usually purple-violet.

The flowering period extends from April to May

Occurrence

The Southeastern Arum is a Florenelement the submeridionalen to temperate zone of South Eastern Europe. In Germany, the species occurs only in Hamburg. In Austria, the species is common in moist to wet, very nutrient-rich deciduous forests in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland (obviously just east of the Erlauf ) encountered.

System

Synonyms for Arum Arum alpinum Schott et cylindraceum are Kotschy and Arum orientale M.Bieb. subsp. danicum ( Prime) Prime.

In 2012, the subspecies Arum cylindraceum subsp. pitsyllianum Hadjikyriakou described. It is endemic to Cyprus. Differences from the nominate form are: the tubular part of the spathe is white to greenish white and has the inside just above the ground, a pale pink color, horizontal transverse band. The piston is orange to orange-pink. The anthers are orange. The flowering period extends from May to early June. The chromosome number is 2n = 28 also
