Arve Henriksen

Arve Henriksen ( born 1968 in Stranda ) is a Norwegian jazz trumpeter.

Life and work

Henriksen studied from 1987 to 1991 at the Conservatory of Trondheim. Since 1989 he works professionally as a musician. He has performed with musicians like Anders Jormin, Edward Vesala, Jon Christensen, Audun Kleive, Nils Petter Molvaer, Mikhail Alperin, Arkady Shilkloper, Marc Ducret, Bjørn Kjellemyr, Sten Sandell, Frode Gjerstad, Peter Friis Nielsen, Stian Carstensen, Trygve Seim, Edward Vesala, Marilyn Mazur, Marilyn Crispell and Terje Isungset. He is also a member of Jon Balke's Magnetic North Orchestra. With Helge Sten, Ståle Storløkken and Jarle Vespestad he founded the quartet Supersilent, which released several albums on Rune Grammofon. He also worked with the Japanese koto player Satsuki Odamura and the rock band Motorpsycho.

In 2001 he released his first solo album Sakuteiki, the title comes from a Japanese plant of the Japanese garden art from the 11th century. 2004 was created in collaboration with Audun Kleive and Jan Bang Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro is the Italian name for the light-dark painting of the late Renaissance and the Baroque. In December 2008, finally published Henriksen Cartography with his first solo album for ECM, after he had already taken part in around 25 ECM albums. With Bang, Erik Honoré, Tigran Hamasyan and Robert Jürjendal he took the soundtrack for the feature film Victoria (2013 ) by Torun Lian.

In 2011 he was awarded the Paul Acket Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
