Arvid Wittenberg

Count Arvid Wittenberg ( * 1606, † 1657) was a Swedish officer ( Field Marshal since 1655).

Wittenberg joined as a 16- year-old boy in the army, distinguished himself at the Battle of Wittstock ( 1636), in 1639 promoted to Major General. Wittenberg was the commander of the right wing of the Swedish army in the battles of Breitenfeld (1642 ) and Jankau (1645 ). In the Polish war of Wittelsbach Charles X Gustav Arvid Wittenberg Krakow conquered in 1655 and was appointed commander of Warsaw, but had to capitulate in 1656 after the successful siege of the Polish capital by King John II Casimir. He died as a Polish prisoner of war.
