Aryabhata II.

Aryabhata II was an Indian mathematician and astronomer who probably lived in the 10th century. He is known for his astronomical masterpiece Maha Siddhanta.

About him almost nothing is known and dates of his life are uncertain. After Pingree he can be classified 950-1100. Most be astronomical masterpiece Maha Siddhanta is dated to around 950. The basic data come from the fact that Bhaskara II (12th century) refers to him and Aryabhata II turn on Sridhara (around 870 to 930 ) points.

He is usually called Aryabatha II to distinguish ( I. Aryabatha ) to distinguish it from the older Aryabhata.

The first 12 chapters ( of 18) of the handle Maha Siddhanta treat theoretical astronomy ( Planetenörter, solar and lunar eclipses, conjunctions of planets, moonrise and set-up and demise of the planet ), the last six chapters (13-18 ) geometry, geography and algebra with astronomical applications and bear the general title over the sphere ( Goladhyaya ). The work is written in Sanskrit verse. In it we find, among other things, a method to determine the cube root of ( the already known to the older Aryabhata I. was though) and sines.

The Maha Siddhanta was in Sanskrit of Sudhakara Dvivedi published in 1910 ( Benares Sanskrit Series, with commentary in Sanskrit ).
