Arzberg (Altmühltal)

The Arzberg is a 507.1 m above sea level. NN high mountain in the southern Franconian Alb in Beilngries and Unterdietfurt in the Upper Bavarian district of Eichstätt and Neumarkt County in the Upper Palatinate, Bavaria ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The Arzberg located in the natural park Altmuhltal between Beilngries directly to the west and Unterdietfurt something away to the east, with draw the urban areas of Beilngries (Western Arzberg ) and Unterdietfurt (Eastern Arzberg ) to far to the predominantly forested mountain. In the north of the mountain lying valley Ottmaring is ( to Unterdietfurt ), to the south are Kottingwörth ( Beilngries ) and Grögling and Toeging (both to Unterdietfurt ).

North at Arzberg past runs in the section between Beilngries and Unterdietfurt in Ottmaring Trockental the Main -Danube Canal. Through this valley once flowed the Sulz, the west of the mountain broke through the rock barrier to Altmühltal during the last ice age and there ever since - opens into the south on the mountain flowing past Altmühltherme - today after flowing from Beilngries. The channel has been integrated into the course of both rivers.

The Arzberg is about six miles long and in north-south direction up to about two kilometers wide in east-west direction.

Reserves

The western and southern flank of the Arzberg forms the extreme eastern part of the multipart Fauna- Flora-Habitat area median Altmühtal Wellheimer Arroyo and Schambachtal ( FFH-Nr. 7132-371 ). This area is also a part of the bird reserve and rocks and hillside forests in Altmühltal Wellheimer Arroyo ( VSG-Nr. 7132-471 ). Almost the entire mountain is part of the founded in 1995 and 3141.36 km ² large nature preserve LSG within the Altmühlmal Nature Park ( LSG-Nr. 329151 ).

Hiking

About the Arzberg and by the Altmühltal runs in the section between Beilngries and Unterdietfurt E8 European long distance path. Since 1995, the 3.5 km long forest trail Arzberg is applied, the past many boards.
