AS.30

The AS.30 is a short-range air -to-ground missile that was developed by Aérospatiale for the French Air Force. It is the successor of the AS.20, which was developed in the mid 1950s.

AS.30

The AS.30 was placed in the Armée de l'air in 1960, in service. They are available in several versions, from the most famous is AS.30L. When the AS.30 was put into service in 1960, it gave them at first only with the same target system as it had the AS.20. It was not until a later variant was equipped with an infrared seeker head. The 240- kg warhead was used in all AS.30 versions, it is a derivative of the French 250kg GP bomb.

The weapon will be transmitted with a small stick, with the control radio commands to the missiles directed. The French Air Force also used the visor correction control, in which the goal is kept in sight and the missile flight path performs the corrections themselves. For this purpose an infra-red detector is required, which perceives the heat radiation of the flare at the rear of the missile, and therefore, the control electronics can get with respect to the line of sight, the position of the missile. The disadvantage of this method is that no low-level attacks can be flown, because the carrier machine must fly from a great height in the dive to the target.

AS.30L

In 1974, Aérospatiale start with the development of AS.30 with laser homing head (L). The test programs were completed in 1983. For these tests, a total of fourteen rockets were used. From 1988, the AS.30L was officially submitted to the French Air Force in service since 1996, also at the naval aviation. With the ATLIS II target gondola AS.30L is a very accurate missile hit their accuracy is specified with a meter.
