Asa Lyon

Asa Lyon ( born December 31, 1763 in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut, † April 4, 1841 in South Hero, Vermont ) was an American politician. Between 1815 and 1817 he represented the fourth electoral district of the state of Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Asa Lyon attended the public schools of his home and then to 1790 Dartmouth College in Hanover (New Hampshire). He then studied theology and was ordained as pastor of the Congregational Church in Sunderland (Massachusetts ) in 1792. Two years later he moved to South Hero, Vermont and studied law. Between 1802 and 1840, Lyon worked in addition to his political activities as pastor of South Hero.

Politically, Lyon member of the Federalist Party. Between 1799 and 1814 he was several times intermittently, Member of the House of Representatives from Vermont. In 1808, he was there the State Council. From 1805 to 1809 and again from 1813 to 1814, he served as Chief Judge of the District Court in Grand Isle County. In the congressional elections of 1814 Lyon in the fourth district of Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC was selected. There he entered on March 4, 1815, the successor of Charles Rich. But until March 3, 1817, he was able to complete only one term in Congress.

After his time in Congress, Asa Lyon withdrew from politics. He continued working as a pastor in South Hero. There he is also deceased in April 1841.
