Asaf Ali

Asaf Ali (May 11, 1888 in Delhi, † April 1, 1953 in Bern ) was an Indian lawyer, politician and diplomat.

Life

Ali attended the St. Stephen 's College in Delhi and then went to the UK to study law there. In 1912 he was aufgenohmen to the bar of Lincoln's Inn. After his return to India, he joined the nationalists. As a result, he was placed in 1918, citing the Defence of India Act in court. During the process, he was able to defend himself successfully. Asaf now operated still in the independence movement and was imprisoned in the course of the next few years several times. In 1928 he married Aruna Ganguli.

As an active member of the Muslim Nationalist Party, he was elected in 1935 in the Central Legislative Assembly. Ali received here by both Muslim and Hindu strong support. In a subsequent election, he joined the Congress party and this defeated the candidate of the Muslim League. As a parliamentarian, he worked on issues of foreign and defense policy, as well as in constitutional matters. In addition, he served his party as Deputy Leader in the Central Legislative Assembly. As of September 1946, Ali was responsible in Indian transitional government in the field of transport and rail transport. From February 1947 to April 1948 he was the first Indian Ambassador to the United States. He then returned to be returned to India to Governor of Orissa. The associated strenuous travel and work, his health deteriorated continuously, so he resigned in May 1952 as governor. Ali has now been appointed as the Indian Ambassador in Switzerland, with concurrent accreditation in Austria and the Holy See. On the night of April 1, 1953 Ali died at the age of 64 years in Bern from a heart attack.
