Asahi, Nagano

Asahi ( Japanese:朝日 村, -mura ) is a village in Higashichikuma -gun in Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu. It is located on the southwestern end of Matsumoto Valley The name means morning sun and is therefore, come that it is the first settlement of the valley is due to its location in Matsumoto Valley, which lies in the morning in the sunlight, while further east towns, nor the shadow of the mountains are.

Geography

The north-east of the village is located in Matsumoto Valley, the largest valley of Nagano Prefecture. The largest part of the village, however, lies in the Hida Mountains, resulting in a thin average population of the municipality. The village is located on the short river Kusari, which opens in Matsumoto in the Narai. Adjacent municipalities are the cities ( shi) Matsumoto and Shiojiri, as well as also belonging to Higashichikuma -gun village Yamagata and to Kiso -gun belonging to the village of Kiso- mura.

History

Archaeological finds suggest that the area of today's Asahi has been inhabited since the Jōmon period. In the Edo period, the area initially belonged to the Matsumoto - han, but later went to the Takato -han. In the Meiji period, the village was called in its present territorial dimensions first of 25 October 1875 to the February 16, 1884 Yamamoto, but was then split into its four individual settlements. With the establishment of the modern municipal system, however, it had been rebuilt under its present name on 1 April 1889. Since this foundation as a local administrative unit Asahi was not involved in a territorial reform.

Traffic

Asahi is located off the main traffic routes. By Asahi does not perform national road and no railway line. The nearest railway station is the Shiojiri Station. In Asahi however, there are four bus lines.

Educational institutions

Asahi carries a primary school and together with the municipalities Matsumoto and Yamagata a middle school.
