Asamoah Gyan (2008)

Asamoah Gyan ( born November 22, 1985 in Accra ) is a Ghanaian football player. He plays the position of striker. Since 2011 he has been active for the Al Ain Club in the Premier Division in the United Arab Emirates.

Life

Asamoah Gyan has been married since 2007 and has two daughters with his wife. His brother Baffour Gyan is also a professional football player and plays for Saturn Ramenskoje in the first Russian league.

Asamoah Gyan sings under the stage name Baby Jet. In summer 2010 he reached together with the artist Castro with the song "African Girls" No. 1 on the Ghanaian music charts.

Career

In the club

Asamoah Gyan began his career with Liberty Professionals, for the season 2003/ 04 he moved to Udinese Calcio in the Italian Serie A. For the following two seasons of Ghanaians was loaned to second division side FC Modena, before he returned in 2006/ 07 back to Udinese. For the season 2008/ 09 he moved to French club Stade Rennes. At the end of the change period of the 2010/11 season it to the AFC Sunderland undertook for the Premier League.

In September 2011, he was loaned out to Al Ain Club and finally firmly committed in July 2012.

In the National Team

His first international Asamoah Gyan Match on 19 November 2003 against the national team of Somalia. At the Olympic Games in 2004 Asamoah Gyan belonged to the squad of Ghana. The team already retired from in the first round of the tournament. Gyan Ghana also represented at the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany, where he scored the first goal for his country in a World Cup in the second round match against the Czech Republic after 75 seconds.

In the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he scored in the group match against Serbia in the 84th minute penalty by hand the 1-0 winning goal and made so for the first victory of an African team in the tournament. Even against Australia succeeded Gyan of compensation by a penalty. Thus, Ghana is the first team, which reached only through penalty goals the knockout stages of a World Cup. In the second round encounter against the USA Gyan scored in the third minute of extra time the decisive 2-1 Ghana. In the quarter- final against Uruguay he scored in stoppage time of the extension at 1-1 a penalty at the bar. During the subsequent penalty shoot- Gyan scored Although, Ghana lost, however, with 2:4 and thus retired. They would have been the first African team in a World Cup semi-finals.

Through his two goals in a 3-1 victory in Sudan in the World Cup qualifiers in 2014 Gyan built his goal tally for the national team on 34 results. He is the new record scorer of Ghanaians. He replaces Abédi Pele, whose record (33 goals) had for 15 years stock.

Awards

In the Africa Cup 2010 Gyan was elected the best team of the tournament. In the 2010 World Cup Gyan was twice appointed to the Man of the Match nomination ( against Serbia and against Australia ) and for choosing the most valuable player of the World Cup.

In 2010 he was also nominated as one of 23 players nominated for the Ballon d'Or in 2010 and finished in the choice to African Footballer of the year behind Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba before the second place. In July 2010, Gyan was named to Ghana's footballer of the year and in December 2010 he was honored with the title of BBC African Footballer of the Year.
