Asavyo

BWf1

The Asavyo is a shield volcano in the Danakil Depression of Ethiopia.

He, together with the other two major volcanoes NaBrO ( 2218 meters) and Mallahle (1875 meters), the most south-western end of a chain that extends from Eritrea to the north- east to south-west across the border to Ethiopia. The 1200 meter high summit consists of a caldera with a diameter of 12 kilometers. Basaltic lava flows cover the flanks of the volcano. Inside the caldera and on the flanks of several pyroclastic cones rise.

Although the exact age of the volcano is not known, some scientists believe that in the past 2000 years eruptions took place ( International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth 's Interior, 1973).
