Asbury Park is a city in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States and is on the Atlantic. According to the census in 2010 there live 16,116 people.

Geography

The city covers an area of 4.1 km ². 3.7 km ² of which are land and 0.4 km ² ( 10.62% ) are water.

Demography

Data obtained from the census in 2000 16.930 residents of Asbury Park were living in 6,754 households; among them were 3,586 families. The population density was 5,629 with very high per km ². In place 7,744 residential units were recorded. Among the population was 15.77 % White, 67.11 % African American, 0.32 % Native American, 0.70 % Asian, and 6.56% from other ethnic groups; 5.53 % reported belonging to several ethnic groups.

Among the 6,754 households 31.0 % had children under the age of 18; 39.4% were single-person households. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size 3.36 persons.

The population was spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 10.6 % from 18 to 24, 29.8 % 25-44 years, 18.3% from 45 to 64 years and 11.2% of 65 years or older. The median age was 31 years.

The median household income was $ 23,801, the median family income $ 26,370. The per capita income in Asbury Park was $ 13,516. Under the poverty line lived 40.1 % of the population.

History

Asbury Park was once a thriving resort town on the coast. From the late 19th century to the sixties of the 20th century, the city was known as the Jewel of the Jersey shore. The movie City by the Sea (2002) with Robert De Niro was filmed at various locations around Asbury Park around, although the film really played in Long Beach, New York. On the other hand, played the film Dark Ride (2006) with Jamie -Lynn Discala in Asbury Park, although he was actually filmed in Los Angeles, California. Asbury Park is a central Handlungsort in David Morrell's Creepers Thriller ( 2005).
