ASC X12

ANSI ASC X12 stands for American National Standards Institute Accredited Standards Committee X12 and is a data transmission standard in the EDI field, which is mainly used in the USA. The group was founded in 1979 and adopted in 1982 for the first time the ANSI ASC X12 standard. He was next developed by UN / ECE standard format GTDI ( Guidelines for Trade Data Interchange) the basis for UN / EDIFACT.

In this standard, data structures are described, as are used for transmission between individual computer systems.

The main difference to EDIFACT, which is mainly used in Europe, is the different structure of the message. Both in EDIFACT and X12 it is possible to check the message at the receiver through a converter (EDI ) and returned as a response a response file. There shall be stated how many segments and elements correctly and how many are defective. In practice it is often not required for this review, and an automated response with zero errors generated and sent back. Any errors are then clarified in the direct path between the partners.
