Ascension Parish, Louisiana

The Ascension Parish (French: Paroisse de l' Ascension ) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. In 2010, the Parish had 107 215 inhabitants and a population density of 142 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Donaldsonville, named after William Donaldson from New Orleans.

The Ascension Parish is part of the metropolitan area around the city of Baton Rouge.

Geography

The Parish is located in the middle of the southeast Louisiana and has an area of 784 square kilometers, of which 29 square kilometers are water surface; largest river is the Mississippi. At the Ascension Parish boundaries Nachbarparishes following:

History

The Ascension Parish was formed on March 31, 1807 as one of the 19 original Parishes.

Population

According to the census in 2010 lived in Ascension Parish 107 215 people in 35,640 households. The population density was 142 people per square kilometer. In the 35,640 households lived statistically 2.85 per person.
