The Aschau is a creek in South Heath Nature Park in Lower Saxony, a right tributary of Laughed, which opens into the Aller.

Headwaters

The Aschau arises as Drellebach in a good 5 -kilometer arroyo, which is sunk into the southern slopes of the wooded Lüßplateaus in South Heath. After 1.8 km of the creek feeds the in the 1890s artificial ponds Loher. From the mouth of coming from the left almost parallel Dallebachs called the Bach Aschau.

Together with the Aschau ponds from 1903 scale is a contiguous area of approximately 50 man-made ponds created, where extensive fish farming of trout, carp, tench, pike, ide, as well as signal and crayfish is operated. As biotope fish live here gudgeon, roach, sticklebacks, bitterling and mussels pond. At the water surface so rare birds such as the black stork, egret, red-necked grebe, bittern and kingfisher can be observed in addition to the gray heron, the Grey Goose and Canada Goose. The crane also breeds the osprey here since 2004. The Eagle is occasionally seen.

The pond areas since 1982 are part of a water protection area. 1987 have been designated as a bird sanctuary. Since 2003, the area EU bird sanctuary since 2005 and assigned to the FFH area 86 Laughed - Lutter - Aschau in the framework of the EU Natura 2000 conservation project.

Course

The Aschau now enters the low -wave, agriculturally dominated by ground moraine Eschede. In Habighorst comes from the right add the Quarmbach, which rises in the Rahmoor and makes a great marsh and pond area just before the confluence with the Aschau.
