Ascheffel

Ascheffel ( Low German Aschepel, Danish: Askfelt ) is a municipality in the Hüttener mountains in Rendsburg -Eckernförde circle. To Ascheffel include the districts long pieces and upper and Unterschoothorst.

Geography and transport

The nearest towns in the area are Rendsburg, Schleswig and Eckernförde. Southwest runs the Autobahn 7 of Rendsburg Schleswig, southeast of the state road 203 from Rendsburg to Eckernförde and north of State Road 76 from Eckernförde to Schleswig.

The town was first mentioned in 1415. The place name derives from an old measure of grain, meaning the bushel at the Au.

In the 16th century a glassworks was in place in the 17th century a paper mill.

Policy

Since the local elections of 2013, the voters Community AKVA has all eleven seats in the municipal council.

Ascheffel is known primarily for its storks that nest there each year, as well as for the nearby 98 -meter-high Aschberg with his Bismarck Memorial. The monument stood before 1920 on the Knivsberg in Denmark. It attracts many visitors, because it is one of only two existing in this size Monuments Bismarck ( the other is in Hamburg).

Sports

In Ascheffel there is the sports club Hüttener mountains which exists as a registered association since 1948. This organizes every year a sports festival with a handball tournament. Although the handball division is the largest of the sports club, but there are still ladies gym, children's gymnastics, table tennis, amateur theater group, dance and gymnastics group offered. There is also the sport shooting club Hüttener mountains, which has existed since 1952.

Since 1991, each year the race Around Ascheffel place (formerly round in Hüttener Berge Nature Park ). This cycling event in which athletes compete about 800 each year, has for some years the season's opening race of the Cycling Federation of Schleswig -Holstein.
