ASELSAN ( Turkish askeri Electronics Sanayii A.Ş. ) is Turkey's biggest arms company, which was in the Annual Report 2011 of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI ) in the world rankings (excluding China) for the year 2009 number 94 (2008: not under the first hundred ).

Organization and History

Founded in 1975 and headquartered in the district Macunköy the state capital Ankara produces electronic equipment mainly for the Turkish armed forces. An essential part of the product range make hardware and software modifications produced in NATO countries to Turkish device needs. The first export business was completed in 1983. A first overseas branch was founded in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku, 1998. The corporate form is that of a Anonim Şirket.

Business areas are:

  • Communication devices ( in-house: HBT)
  • Defense systems (SST )
  • Radar, electronic warfare and intelligence systems ( REHIS )
  • Microelectronics, monitoring and electro-optical systems ( MGEO ).

According to SIPRI totaled with 3730 employees with a total turnover of 670 million U.S. dollars in arms sales in 2009 to $ 640 million, which corresponds to a rate of 96 %. Net profit came in at $ 119 million.
