Ashburn is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County, Virginia, 50 km west of Washington, DC and is part of the Washington Metropolitan Area.

History

Ashburn Farm was originally called Well ( different forms of the name: Old Farm Well Farm and Well Station). The name came from a nearby estate that George Lee III. belonged. The name Farm Well first emerged in George Lee 's Testament in October 1802 and was used as a description for the 5 km ² large plantation, which he had inherited from his father Thomas Ludwell Lee II. A part of the farm Well- plantation west of Ashburn Road, a 2.34 km ² large area was purchased in 1841 by lawyer and almost vice-president John Janney, a Quaker as a summer residence. John Janney called the property Ashburn Farm (first known written use in 1870, when he sold the property ). He has the farm probably by friends of the family who were called Ashburn, named.

1895 Ashburn Farm by Senator William Morris Stewart was purchased. Legend has it that the village that was known up to that station as a farm or farm Well Well, got its new name after 1896 flash in an ash tree on Senator Stewart struck farm. The ash is said to have reportedly burned and smouldered for a week and onlookers have attracted from afar. After the post office demanded a new name for the village (to avoid confusion with Farmville in Prince Edward County ) and the Senator was the leader of the area, the villagers have the place after the Ashwood Brand (English ash burn ) named.
