Asher Brown Durand
Asher Brown Durand ( born August 21, 1796 in Jefferson Village, now Maplewood, New Jersey, † September 17, 1886 in Maplewood, New Jersey) was an American painter of the Hudson River School, as well as draftsman, engraver and illustrator.
He was the brother of the engraver Cyrus Durand (1787-1868) and the goldsmith and engraver John Durand ( 1792-1820 ).
Durand was the first American painter who worked for nature.
