Ashiq Qarib

Asiq Qərib is an Azerbaijani romantic, fairy-tale epic about a moving Epensänger ( asiq ), which, Central and Asia Minor is also popular in the Caucasus.

The first written version was recorded by Mikhail Lermontov in 1837, which was probably told by Mirza Ali Fet in Tbilisi history. 1846 Lermontov Russian version was published posthumously.

The story was set to music in the operas Ashik - Gharib of Üzeyir Hacıbəyov and chess - Senem (1923-1925) by Reinhold Gliere Moritzewitsch. Even the ballet ashik Kerib (1939-1940) by Boris Vladimirovich Assafjew ​​is a setting of epic.

Sergei Parajanov filmed the work in 1988 as Ashugi Quaribi ( German: Kerib, the minstrel ).
