Ashkelon–Beersheba railway

The railway - Ashkelon Beersheba is an under construction railway connection in Israel. It extends the network of Israel Railways as an east -west cross-connection of Ashkelon for railway Nahariya - Be'er Sheva, in which she opens north of Beersheba. The first section to Sderot was opened in December 2013.

History

Construction began on July 4, 2010. At the beginning of 2015, the route becomes operational. The travel time between Ashkelon and Be'er Sheva should then be 45 minutes.

The connection is 60 km long and will cost 360 million euros. It is - give three intermediate stations - in addition to the endpoints. Four bridges are created to without crossing streets to let the new track crossing and 14 other bridges, usually to span wadis. The longest bridge Schikma bridge will be 450 meters long. The railway subgrade is performed for a double-track line, even if initially only one track will be laid.
