Ashland (formerly also Slash Cottage or slashes ) is a 6,600 inhabitants small town in the state of Virginia in the United States. It is located about 30 km north of Virginia's capital Richmond in Hanover County.

Ashland was founded in 1858 at a historically well-used route between Richmond and Washington, now Interstate 95. Ashland is today home of Randolph -Macon College.

In October 2002, Ashland became one of the crime scenes of the Beltway Sniper Attacks in the headlines.
