Ashley B. Wright

Ashley Bascom Wright ( born May 25, 1841 in Hinsdale, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, † August 14, 1897 in North Adams, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1897 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ashley Wright attended the common schools and the Lincoln Academy in Hinsdale. In 1861 he moved to North Adams. He was until 1865 deputy head of the tax authority in the tenth financial district of his state. He then worked in retail. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. He sat in the council, and from 1884 to 1887 in the County Council, which he chaired for a year. In the years 1890 and 1891 Wright belonged to the Government of Massachusetts (State Executive Council ) to.

In the congressional elections of 1892 Wright was the first electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Charles S. Randall on March 4, 1893. After two re- elections he could remain until his death on August 14, 1897 in Congress. Since 1895 he was chairman of the Committee on Mileage.
