History

The Ashley County, the fifth largest county in Arkansas was formed on 30 November 1848 for parts of the Drew County, the Chicot and the Union County as the 53rd county in Arkansas. It was named after Chester Ashley (1790-1848), a U.S. Senator and land speculators.
