Ashutosh Gowariker

Ashutosh Gowariker ( Marathi: आशुतोष गोवारीकर, Āśutoṣ Govārīkar; * February 15, 1964 (according to other sources: 1968 ) in Kolhapur ) is an Indian film director and actor.

Career

Ashutosh Gowariker started his career as an actor in Ketan Mehta's film Holi in 1984. Thereafter he appeared in several television series and other films.

Before he directed Lagaan and Swades, he was already working with the main actors of these two films, Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan together. With Aamir, he worked in Holi together and with Shahrukh in the TV series Circus as well as the two films Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Chamatkar

His directorial debut was with the film Pehla Nasha (1993 ) (inspired by Brian De Palmas Hollywood film Body Double ), but flopped at the box office. With Baazi, his second film, he had at least a moderate success.

With Lagaan he made ​​the breakthrough and won many prizes. The film was even nominated at the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film.

In 2004 he turned Swades with Shah Rukh Khan. This film was highly praised by critics, but made no great profit to the cash register. Very popular was the film overseas.

Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar was the last film, which came out in 2008, the cinema, with Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bacchan as main characters. In 2009 he took up the work on Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, which leads to the time of Indian freedom struggles of the 1930s.
