Asitha Ameresekere

Asitha Ameresekere (* June 24, 1971 in London ) is a British film director.

Life

The family roots of Asitha Ameresekere are in Sri Lanka. He went to the Overseas Children's School in Sri Lanka and the Harrow School in London. At the University of Bristol he attended lectures in classical archeology. His studies in theater, video and film at the California Institute of the Arts, he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts.

For his short films Asitha Ameresekere has won several awards. In 2008 he took part in the Berlinale Talent Campus. Asitha Ameresekere lives in London.

For Do Not Erase he won awards including the Audience Award at the Hamburg Short Film Festival 2006 in the category Best Short Film at the BAFTA Awards 2007 and the Frontier Reel Award at the Arizona International Film Festival 2007.

For 14 Asitha Ameresekere received the Vienna Short Film Award at Vienna Independent Shorts 2009. The film was also nominated for Best Short Film at the BAFTA Awards 2010 in the category.
