Asius of Samos

Asius of Samos, son of Amphiptolemos, was an ancient Greek poets of the Archaic period.

He lived perhaps as early as 700 BC, but more likely, according to Hesiod, perhaps in the 6th century BC He was born in Samos and Athenaeus calls him the "old Sami poet ". Asius wrote epics and elegies, but its contents are not known. Pausanias mentions that he used his works because of its mythological information. Of his epics only quotations in other ancient writers ( Athenaeus, Pausanias, Strabo, Apollodorus and some more ) are preserved, which exclusively deal with family relationships. His elegies, which are written in the usual meter are gone except for a few that were led by Athenaeus lost.
