Askainen

Askainen [ ɑskɑi̯nɛn ] (Swedish Villnäs ) is a former municipality in the southwestern Finnish landscape Varsinais- Suomi. At the beginning of 2009, it was incorporated along with lemurs after Masku.

The community lemurs had an area of ​​62.98 km ² and last 1007 inhabitants. So it was one of the smallest municipalities in mainland Finland. Askainen is nationally known for Louhisaari Castle, one of the few baroque palaces in Finland. The building was completed in 1655 to 1791 the seat of the noble family of Fleming, who gave the estate from financial difficulties in 1791 and eventually sold to the Count Carl Erik Mannerheim, who was thus the first rung of this Swedish noble family, who settled in Finland. He was the great-grandfather of the later Finnish Marshal and President Carl Gustaf Mannerheim (1867-1951), who was born at the castle. The castle also includes a built chapel in 1653, in whose churchyard is the tomb of the Mannerheim.
