Askesian Society

The Askesian Society was a joint scientific adjusted people and was founded in 1796 in London by William Allen ( 1770-1843 ). The foundation was designed to fill a gap in intellectual London, which was caused by the adjustment of the chemistry lectures of Bryan Higgins. Among the founding members Richard Phillips and William Haseldine Pepys counted II ( 1775-1856 ). Allen's laboratory in Plough Court of the group served for their scientific experiments.

Members were encouraged to pay a fee or submit a job. Luke Howard stopped in front of this background in December 1802 a lecture entitled On The Modification of Clouds. In this work he introduced for the first time still common classification of clouds in " stratus", " nimbus ", " cumulus " and " cirrus " dar.
