The Spitzblättriger asparagus (Asparagus acutifolius ) is a plant of the genus Asparagus (Asparagus ) in the family of asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ).

Features

Spitzblättriger asparagus is reached an evergreen, climbing shrub, the plant height 1-2 meters. The stem is whitish, erect and has rough ribs. The bill leaves are green to blue-green, hard, pointed and measure 2 to 10 × 0.3 to 0.5 millimeters. The nodes are 4 to 10 (rarely to 30) present slip sheets. The scale leaves have a 2 to 4 millimeters long spine at the base. The perianth is 3-4 mm long. The flower stalk is 4-7 mm long. The berries have a diameter from 4.5 to 7 millimeters and are black.

The flowering period extends from August to September.

Occurrence

Spitzblättriger asparagus comes in the Mediterranean pine forests and maquis up to altitudes of 1525 meters before.

Use

Spitzblättriger asparagus is rarely used as an ornamental plant. The species is in cultivation since at least 1640.
